Trained in New York City at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Michelle is a dedicated professional dancer, choreographer and teacher in Ottawa, Ontario. Michelle began dancing at the Greenwich Ballet Workshop under the direction of Felicity Foote in 1989. She was accepted into Mrs. Foote’s company, the American Youth Ballet in 1990 and performed with the company from 1991-1993, dancing with the Ambassador’s in Leotard’s Tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Returning to her native Toronto in 1994, Michelle attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts and studied with Bella Kovarsky at the Bayview School of Ballet. She continued to dance her way through university completing her BFA at York, spending summers at the Ailey School in NYC and working with Cadence Dance Project in Providence, RI. In 2002 Michelle moved to Montreal to train in African dance with Zab Maboungo. She moved to Ottawa in 2005 to teach at St. Timothy’s Classical Academy and found her way to Canterbury High School where she worked as a guest artist and choreographer. In 2010 she completed her B.Ed. at the University of Ottawa, becoming an Ontario certified high school teacher. Michelle’s extensive dance training includes Classical Ballet, Modern Dance (Horton, Graham, Limon, Cunningham), African Dance, Jazz, Character, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre.
